Lessons in Manliness from Atticus Finch When it comes to manly characters in literature, my thoughts always return to one man: Perhaps this character from To Kill a Mockingbird seems like an unusual choice. A gentleman in a three piece suit. A widower of two kids, Jem and Scout. A man who was quiet instead of brash. Polite instead of macho. A lawyer who used his mind instead of his fists, who walked away from insults.
A man who liked nothing better than to bury himself in a book. But it is the subtlety of his manliness, the way he carried himself, taught his children, made his choices, that makes his manliness all the more real, all the more potent. His manhood was not displayed in great showy acts but in quiet, consistent strength, in supreme self-possession.

Earlier in the year, I thought about traveling somewhere during the December holidays. I definitely needed to get away for a bit to get some much-needed relaxation and come back ready to start the new year feeling fresh and rejuvenated. I decided I was going to travel to Belize for six days — alone. I had never traveled solo, but I decided that I would take the plunge and try something new.
Initially, I was unsure of what it would be like as a woman traveling alone outside of the country. Naturally, I thought a great deal about safety concerns and whether I would be bored and lonely without a travel companion. However, soon after I landed in Belize, these worries and doubts quickly faded away. My solo trip to Belize was eye-opening and filled with adventure.
I had an amazing time, and I also had the opportunity to engage in meaningful self-reflection. Here are some of the takeaways I gained from my travels. I have lost track of the number of times in my life in which I have waited and waited to do something I have really wanted to do simply because I did not have a partner. At the end of it, I have missed out on a lot of amazing experiences which, in hindsight, I realize I probably could have enjoyed on my own.

Dating Advice – Break-up Lessons Jan 19, The crash-and-burn of his first long-term courtship is full of important lessons for the future. When we first dated, she was perfect and I thought we would have been engaged by now. We had our problems in the very beginning, and went through several short-term break ups. But we kept rekindling, thinking something was going to change. She was jealous of me, not trusting, and had the ability to turn everything around on me.
There were incidents in my past involving dating that bothered her. She told me about her past and sometimes I thought she would make up stories just to get me jealous. We would usually get along fine for 2 or 3 days before we had a big fight. Every day, some little thing bothered her and I just got used to it. I began to think that she would start fights just to see if I cared enough to fight back.
I told her I loved her, called when I said I would, and welcomed her friends and family. I suppressed all the negative stories and warnings I received from people saying that I should stop dating her. I miss having someone in my life, and I was in love with her, and part of me still is.

Keeping up with the Janes Philippians 4: I met a lady once that always seemed to have it all together; being around her brought a tidal wave of emotions that I had never experienced all at once- astonishment, admiration, and irritation with a dash of intimidation. She was on the PTA, worked a solid job, her house was always spotless and so were her kids..
She was giving, loving, kind, soft spoken, self disciplined, obedient to her husband The laundry list goes on and on. Being around her was like I had stepped into a home off of the Stepford Wives. After some time of being around “Jane”, I realized I was a lot more like her than I had thought She was a lot more like me. I discovered that though this poster mom had it all together from the outside, there were things going on inside of her that no one could see.
